Wrinkles around the eyes or bags under the eyes often appear as part of the natural aging process. In many cases, they are inherited and may appear quite early in life. Blepharoplasty is the procedure used to correct, the severe wrinkling of eyelid skin and remove the bagginess caused by fat pockets in both the upper and lower eyelids.
Blepharoplasty surgery is performed under local anesthesia with sedation on an outpatient basis usually in conjunction with a facelift, rhinoplasty or a foreheadlift.
The procedure produces a varying degree of post-operative swelling and bruising. However, any discoloration that occurs is usually resolved in ten days. Makeup may be applied on the third or fourth day: eyeliner should not be used for at least ten days.
If excessive wrinkling or the upper eyelid or hooding of the eyebrow is causing visual obstruction, the surgical procedure will & covered by most insurance companies.
